Land is life
Land is Life is a coalition that works to safeguard the rights of indigenous peoples to protect lands, cultures, and biodiversity. In partnership with the project Conversations With the Earth, Land is Life published these two books, which have been distributed to indigenous leaders around the world. The books teach about the effects of climate change on indigenous communities and actions they can take to educate and advocate for themselves on the issue.
I designed both books (each in English and Spanish), utilizing the beautiful photography from the project to illustrate the emotion and reality of the situation. For usability, especially since English may be a second language for many using the books, I created symbols to represent each kind of lesson, a color code for each chapter, and utilized large, easy-to-read headlines and section dividers. The result was a set of textbooks equally inspiring in content and visuals.
